Residencies

My work is often built from the language people use in the world. I have long viewed collaboration, for a poet and writer, to be simply when the choices one makes with language is led or defined by the ideas, words, actions of another person. Residencies have then always been a natural extension of my core interests; working to reveal and reflect the brilliance of others who would offer me a creative impetus, or a temporary home. The works to come from these exchanges have at the very least been about the language and mode of the various professions I have been witnessing; from neuroscience to architecture, from gravedigging to zookeeping.

For me, residencies are about re-imagining the language of work, of graft, producing poetry that refuses simple description, but adds a layer to the complexity of vocations, and is sensitive to the nomenclature of expertise. True also to my interests, my residencies have been extremely ranging, built on connections with people, through friendships, and have come about from my approaches as much as invitations. They have mostly produced poetry, live events and limited edition publications, and to date include time with The Wellcome Collection, J&L Gibbons Landscape Architects, The National Gallery, Shaldon Zoo, Kensal Green Cemetery, Rich Mix Arts Centre.
