Poets for Pussy Riot - Stephen Watts

Seeing there were over 30 poets reading on Wednesday evening, I thought I'd just select a few to say a few words about their remarkable performances, in the hopes that would shed some light on the evening as a whole. All the videos can be found here - http://www.youtube.com/fowlerpoetry

Stephen Watts is one of the most respected poets and translators in the UK. His work stretches back four decades plus and his tireless work integrating European poetry into our culture really shames me own, he is one of those poets who edits and translates in such a humble, comprehensive and admirable way that they shine a path for younger poets like myself who feel it is important to be outward in our activities. Stephen has long maintained a political consciousness that, like his own presence, is never demonstrative or didactic, but all the more powerful for its quiet conviction. Stephen carries with him an indefinable spirit, one that comes from his people, his experience of migration, his sense of calm self-knowledge. His reading on wednesday was absolutely captivating and frankly left me breathless.
